UNITY uGUI · DEBUGGING CHECKLIST

Unity button not clicking?
Six checks to make.

Start in Play Mode, with the affected menu open. Inspect the live objects, because the saved scene can differ from what your initialization code creates.

1. Is the button active and interactable?

Check the Button component and its GameObject, then its parent objects. A menu that has not been activated yet can look like an input problem. Inspect whether the disabled state is intentional before changing it.

2. Do CanvasGroups change the interaction state?

Inspect CanvasGroups on the object and its parents, including Interactable, Blocks Raycasts and Ignore Parent Groups. Evaluate the actual hierarchy in Play Mode; one saved field is not enough to describe the final state.

3. Which EventSystem handles this UI?

Inspect the loaded scene set for the intended EventSystem and input module. An EventSystem might come from another scene or a prefab. Multiple systems can be deliberate in a multiplayer setup, so do not delete them indiscriminately.

4. Are the input actions configured for the device?

With InputSystemUIInputModule, inspect Point and Left Click, their bindings and whether the actions are enabled. A reference that is empty in a saved file may be assigned at runtime. Avoid switching the whole project to the legacy input backend as a blanket fix.

5. What does the pointer actually hit?

Check the relevant Canvas raycaster and graphic raycast targets. Review overlays that could intercept input. A button's target graphic is not necessarily the only graphic that can receive the pointer. The actual on-screen hit needs a runtime check.

6. Is a click listener registered?

Review On Click entries in the Inspector for missing targets or switched-off listeners. An empty list can be correct: initialization code may call onClick.AddListener. Inspect that code path before adding a second listener.

A quick starting report

Inspect a saved scene locally

The free tool highlights selected serialized settings and gives a next step for each. It does not resolve prefabs, inspect scripts, prove a missing external asset or run Unity. Findings are leads to verify, not guaranteed causes.
